The numbers 5090 and 7090 confuse most first-time buyers. They are not sizes or model numbers — they describe the angle of the corrugated flutes inside a cellulose evaporative cooling pad. Choosing correctly affects cooling efficiency, dust resistance and how often you clean the pad.
What do 5090 and 7090 actually mean?
A cellulose cooling pad is made of two corrugated paper layers glued at opposing angles. The two-digit pairs describe those angles:
- 7090 — both layers at 45° / 45°. Equal angles create maximum turbulence and water-to-air contact, giving the highest cooling efficiency. This is the most common general-purpose pad.
- 5090 — layers at 30° / 60°. The steeper face meets the incoming air, channelling more water to the entering side. This resists dust clogging and reduces water droplets being carried into the airflow.
5090 vs 7090: specifications side by side
| Feature | 7090 (45°/45°) | 5090 (30°/60°) |
|---|---|---|
| Cooling efficiency | Highest (up to ~90%) | High (~80–85%) |
| Air resistance | Slightly higher | Lower |
| Dust / clog resistance | Moderate | Better |
| Water carryover | Low | Lowest |
| Best for | Offices, factories, general air cooling | Poultry farms, dusty or high-airflow sites |
Standard pad sizes both machines produce
Most production lines, including our honeycomb pad making machine, make pads in these common dimensions:
- Thickness: 100 mm and 150 mm (200 mm on request)
- Height: up to 2000 mm
- Length: cut to order (300–600 mm modules are typical)
The flute angle is set on the corrugated machine, so a single line can switch between 5090 and 7090 by changing the corrugating roller setup.
Which one should you choose?
- Cooling air for homes, offices, factories and greenhouses → choose 7090 for the best temperature drop.
- Cooling poultry sheds, dairy farms or dusty industrial air → choose 5090 for fewer cleanings and longer pad life.
- Manufacturing pads to sell? Make both. Buyers ask for each, and the same line produces them.
If you are planning a production unit, our team can recommend roller angles and a line layout for the mix of 5090/7090 pads you intend to sell. Request a specification sheet and quote.
